How to Register
To register and receive your unlock code, simply press the “Get Unlock Code” button on the "Media Cleaner 3.0 Demo" screen after launching the Demo. You may also go to our web site to register at http://www.terran.com/support. If you don’t have access to the Web, please print and fill out the short form at the end of this document and fax it to (408) 356-9373.
Limitations
This demo version gives you full access to all of Media Cleaner Pro 3.0’s features, with the exception of GIF encoding, and URL links at the end of movies. This demo will work for 50 uses or 30 days (whichever comes first), and produces clips up to 30 seconds long. All video and images will be watermarked, and movies will have an end frame with a URL link to Terran added.
Video Samples May Not Be Included
Media Cleaner's Settings Wizard uses sample movies to help illustrate your processing options. These movies are stored on the Media Cleaner CD-ROM, and are not included with most versions of the Demo, especially those distributed on the Web. Depending on where you get this Demo, you may see single-frame movies or black screens when using the Settings Wizard.

System Requirements
• Macintosh™ or Mac™OS compatible computer with 68040 CPU (PowerPC™ strongly recommended, and required for several features)
• MacOS 7.0 or later (8.0 or later recommended)
• QuickTime™ 2.5 (3.0 or later strongly recommended, and required for read/write of several formats)
• 10 Mb of available application RAM with 1-2Mb left over for QuickTime (16 Mb recommended)

Installation Instructions
To install Media Cleaner 3.0 Demo, simply place the application in a folder on your hard drive. Launch the Demo by double-clicking on the program icon. The first time Media Cleaner is launched, it will create a "Media Cleaner Settings" folder, and a "Palettes" folder within the current folder.
Installing the Premiere Export Module
To install the Premiere™ Export Module, simply copy the "Media Cleaner Export 3.0" file into your Adobe Premiere Plug-ins folder prior to launching Premiere. If Premiere is running when you do this, you will need to restart Premiere prior to using the Export Module.
Getting/Installing QuickTime 3
We strongly recommend using Media Cleaner 3.0 Demo with QuickTime 3. You may download a free copy of QuickTime 3 from Apple's site at http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download. Please follow the installation instructions included with the QuickTime installer.
NOTE: If you buy Media Cleaner Pro 3.0, you'll get a FREE copy of QuickTime 3 Pro as well (a $30 value).
Getting/Installing the RealVideo Encoder
If you wish to create RealVideo™ files, you'll need the RealVideo 5.0 encoder. You may download a free copy of the encoder from RealNetworks' site at http://proforma.real.com/encoder/50.html. Please follow the installation instructions included with the RealVideo Encoder installer.
Known Issues
Media Cleaner 3.0 has known compatibility problems with:
• Cameraman™ (a screen capture extension)
• Certain versions of the Whiteboard extension (installed by Netscape Navigator™ & QuickTime Conferencing)
If you experience erratic behavior or crashes, we strongly suggest deinstalling these extensions while using Media Cleaner.
QDesign Music Codec Issues:
Using the trial version of the QDesign Music Codec™ Pro Edition for more than 10 days may cause Media Cleaner to “lock up.” Purchasing the Pro Edition or removing the trial version of the Pro Edition from your Extensions folder before 10 days have elapsed will avoid this potential problem.
You may encounter problems with the Pro Edition of the QDesign Music Codec if you don't have a SCSI hard drive attached to your Macintosh’s built-in internal SCSI chain. Please contact QDesign for more information.
Using the QDesign Music Codec with QuickTime 2.5 may cause your computer to crash.
Pressing the “Cancel” button when registering the QDesign Music Codec Pro Edition may cause your computer to crash.
Very occasionally, some movies containing QDesign Music-compressed audio tracks cannot be flattened.
The QDesign Music Codec does not currently support Media Cleaner’s Suspend & Resume feature. If you resume a suspended movie/audio file compressed with the QDesign Music Codec, the audio compression will start over from the beginning. However, the video compression will be resumed from the last keyframe.
Sorenson Video Developer Edition and Default Settings:
All of Media Cleaner’s default settings are created under the assumption that you may not have the commercial versions of the various codecs. Therefore, Cleaner’s default settings don’t specify “Variable Bitrate” encoding with Sorenson Video, because VBR is only supported with the Developer Edition.
If you own the Developer Edition, we recommend that you change the “Video Data Rate” of your settings to “Variable Bitrate” - VBR generally produces superior results to the “Basic” data rate control (which is the default).

RealVideo Issues:
Be sure to use version 5.0 of the RealVideo™ encoder. You must use Open Transport with the RealVideo encoder. Using the encoder without OpenTransport may produce the following error: “Could not find "". ”
The HTML Media Cleaner Pro 3.0 makes does not currently embed RealVideo movies within a page, but instead launches the RealPlayer to display the movie. If you wish, you may write your own HTML to embed movies directly within your page, or use an HTML editor capable of embedding RealVideo.
High Quality First/Last Frame Issues:
Using a high quality “JPEG Track” option for the first/last frame of the movie is incompatible with older versions of QuickTime for Windows. This feature should be considered a QuickTime 3-only option.
Additionally, QuickTime 3 may alter the gamma of your video track on certain computers containing video accelerators. This gamma change may be more evident with JPEG tracks, so using the “JPEG Track” option may be undesirable on these computers. We suggest testing your movies on a wide range of machines if you wish to use the “JPEG Track” option.
The “Basic” option merely increases the data rate of the first/last frames, so it is compatible with all versions of QuickTime, and does not exacerbate the QuickTime 3 gamma issue. Cinepak™ Pro isn’t compatible with the High Quality First Frame option (see next item).
Cinepak Pro Issues:
The High Quality First Frame feature may produce higher than specified data rates when used with Cinepak Pro.
QuickTime may incorrectly report that a movie compressed with Cinepak Pro was compressed with the basic version of Cinepak. Cleaner is using Cinepak Pro correctly – this is an issue with how QuickTime reports codecs.
Data Rate Graph:
The data rate graph may display the size of the last frame incorrectly with some data rate control options.
"Why is my modem dialing?"
Media Cleaner includes an optional feature to check for News & Updates. This makes a connection to the Internet, which can cause a modem to dial your ISP if you are using PPP or SLIP. This feature may be disabled in the Preferences dialog if desired.
